The End of POverty? was #1 in NYC theatre beating out Disney’s The Christmas Carol

Lee Daniels’ “Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” showed no signs of slowing down in its second weekend, while “Fantastic Mr. Fox” exploded onto 2 screens and “The Messenger,” “The End of Poverty?” and “Uncertainty” all managed decent debuts in their own right.
Other openers this weekend included Cinema Libre’s release of Philippe Diaz’s doc “The End of Poverty?,” which made an impressive debut at City Cinemas Village East Cinema in New York. The film – which looks at the root causes of poverty since colonial times - beat out seven other films at the same location, including Disney’s “A Christmas Carol,” by grossing an estimated $11,000.

Too bad that The End of Poverty was yanked out of the Village East Cinema after just seven days! I never got a chance to see it even though it had such a great debut. And it is not showing in any other theaters here in New York City. A shame and a pity.
